Zekiel was born as Xitlali (see-tah-lee), child to Lorena Alvarez-- founder of the Alvarez enterprise, which introduced a variety of fashion brands, jewelry, furniture and spices from the New World to both Eorzea and the Far East. Zekiel doesn't know who his father is, but does know that his mother has a new muse (as she likes to call it) every few years.

Xitlali was a rather shy child, a picky eater and liked to read lots of books. Due to Lorena's work, they never stayed put in one place for too long, and thus a chance for friendships never quite occurred for the little kit. Books of adventure always were good company though, and with mama, a feeling of loneliness never quite manifested.

Lorena rarely let her kit out of sight and Xitlali was quite attached to her in response, often crying when he did get separated from her. She coddled him too often, and had never been happier to have left her home. The tradition of the males leaving their homes would have crushed her.

Per Viera customs, on his thirteenth nameday he changed his name to Zekiel. His mother may still refer to him as his childhood name every now and then. Xitlali isn't a name he really brings up to other people, and the thought of sharing it gets him flustered.

Once Zekiel had taken on his new name, he decided he would love to not only read about his heroes in books, but also acquire the skills he imagined and played pretend so far. His mother signed him up for many lessons to learn how to wield a variety of swords. He's since been in many sparring sessions and regulated battles. His dabbling into swordsmanship helped him open up and socialize with people other than his mother, and he may have grown a little too confident in his skills-- something he began to show off to others to impress them.

Zekiel actually keeps a regular schedule of working out to keep himself fit and healthy. His looks and personality may fool many, but he's got good strength. He also picked up some craftsmanship and is quite a skilled weaver, goldsmith and carpenter, and has had a few of his creations sold through his mother's connections.

Unfortunately for Lorena, as her beloved boy grew into a young man, she realised that she had vastly underprepared him to be an independent individual, relying too much on their wealth and luxury. Countless times would she find him spending all of his allowance in one go, ignorant to the worth of items he's spending on. With a heavy heart, she decided to cut him off and let him gain more life experience by himself, sending him off for errands and to seek his long-sought adventures instead (much to Zekiel's dismay).

Despite this, if she was to hear him struggle, she would find a way to send him Gil one way or another. (clearly, she is an enabler). She keeps tabs on her baby without his knowledge.
